Yearbook DVD

  • Who: Yearbook class & Music Technology
    • student-created artwork and music
  • How: Students each year are responsible for all artwork, publishing layout, etc.that goes into the annual yearbook. They used InDesign to accomplish this. In addition, they provide a video dvd of the year's activities. They learn about copyright of images, photos, and music. The Music Tech class composes the music used for the backgound of the videos using a variety of software packages.

7 Elements of Project-Based Learning

1. Driving Question: What are the copy-right issues that need to be addressed in school publications?

2. Need to Know: Students ask questions and get answers from their yearbook and music teachers as the project progresses.

3. Inquiry and Innovation: Students are researching copyright issues and how they affect the annual yearbook and dvd that are produced each year. They design, capture and edit images and write their own music for the dvd.

4. Student Voice and Choice: Students decide what images and music clips will be used.

5. Feedback and Revision: Students rely on their teachers, peers and group members throughout the project for advise on edits needed, image changes and best publishing options.

6. 21st Century Skills: Communication, cooperation, organization, and coordinating are essential skills to complete the project.

7. Outside Audience: The finished dvd is sold as a supplement to the annual yearbook to students and community members.
